Join us on January 13th for our first Full Moon-th Meetup of 2025! Our guest will be Dr. Nancy L. Chabot, a planetary scientist at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) who has worked on several different space missions!

Our tradition of hosting online meetups with our Sacred Space Astronomy members and the Vatican Observatory staff, scholars and friends during the Full Moon in Tucson (or thereabout) continues on Monday January 13th at 12:00 Noon ET (10:00 AM Tucson time).

Open to the Public – Invite a Friend or Colleague!

These meetups are typically a perk for our Sacred Space Astronomy subscribers, where members get to chat with each other, and astronomers and scientists from the Vatican Observatory… but this first meetup of 2025 will be open to the first 50 non-Sacred Space Astronomy members who contact Chris Kennedy for a spot! Please feel free to let friends or colleagues know about this opportunity.

We’ll also have the latest astronomy news and an update about the Vatican Advanced Technology Telescope1.

Dr. Nancy L. Chabot earned an undergraduate degree in physics at Rice University and a PhD in planetary science at the University of Arizona. She is is a planetary scientist at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) in Laurel, MD, USA.

She was the Coordination Lead on NASA’s Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) mission and an Instrument Scientist on NASA’s MESSENGER mission. She is currently involved in JAXA’s Martian Moons eXploration (MMX) mission and the joint ESA-JAXA BepiColombo mission.

She is an author on more than 100 scientific publications. She has been a member of five field teams with the Antarctic Search for Meteorites (ANSMET) program, is a Fellow of the Meteoritical Society. She has served as Chair of NASA’s Small Bodies Assessment Group, a Panel Chair for the 2023–2032 Planetary Science and Astrobiology Decadal Survey, and as President of the Meteoritical Society.

Asteroid 6899 Nancychabot is named in her honor.
